14 day Veneto Itinerary

Days 1- 4 Exploring Venice and the Lagoon

Your journey begins in Venice, where history, art and everyday life unfold in a city unlike any other. Over three unhurried days, you will explore La Serenissima with a local guide, crossing the Grand Canal, wandering through quiet campi and discovering both the iconic sights and the lesser-known corners that reveal Venice’s true character.

One day is devoted to the Venetian Lagoon. Travelling by private boat, you will visit Burano, known for its brightly coloured houses and long lace-making tradition, and Torcello, a peaceful island with a remarkable early church and a strong sense of the past. It is a relaxed and insightful way to understand the lagoon that shaped Venice’s history.

Days 5–7: The Prosecco Hills – Vines, Villages and Views

Leaving Venice behind, we travel north into the UNESCO-listed Prosecco Hills, a landscape of steep vineyards, small villages and winding country roads. Here, the terrain itself shapes both the wines and the way of life.

You will visit a small, working cheese producer in the hills above Valdobbiadene and sample products made using traditional methods. We explore towns such as Asolo, admired for its views and artistic associations, and Marostica, famous for its castle walls and historic piazza. Along the way, there is time to enjoy the wines that made this region internationally known and to meet the people behind them.

Days 8–11: Vicenza, Padova and Country Villas

Settle into Vicenza, a city defined by its elegant streets and Palladian architecture. Join a local guide to discover highlights such as the Teatro Olimpico, and enjoy time to explore the boutiques, cafés and quiet charm of this walkable city.

From Vicenza, we’ll take a day trip to Padova, with its lively piazzas, layered history and the Scrovegni Chapel—home to Giotto’s early Renaissance frescoes that still move visitors today. You’ll also visit the Villa La Rotonda, one of Palladio’s most iconic works, and stroll the formal Valsanzibio Gardens, a baroque jewel tucked into the hills.

Days 12 – 14 Verona – lakeside towns, rolling hills and Aida

Our final base is Verona, a city rich in Roman, medieval and Renaissance heritage. You’ll have time to settle in and explore its graceful piazzas, ancient ruins, and hidden laneways. A local guide will help bring the city’s layered history to life, from its Roman amphitheatre to the gothic tombs of the ruling Scaligeri family.

From Verona, we’ll head out on a day trip to Lazise, a pretty lakeside town on the edge of Lake Garda, and take a scenic drive through the Valpolicella hills, a region known for its soft light, gentle slopes and world-class wines. We’ll also spend time in the peaceful Parco Sigurtà, a vast garden estate just outside Verona, with formal plantings, walking paths and open green spaces—a welcome contrast to city life.

To finish the tour, we’ll gather for a performance of Aida in the Arena di Verona—an unforgettable opera evening under the stars in one of the world’s most atmospheric open-air theatres. A fitting finale to your time in the Veneto.

Why travel to the Veneto with Italian Tours?

We have been designing small group tours to Italy since 2007, and the Veneto was one of the very first regions we explored in depth. Over many years of returning to this part of Italy, we have developed strong local knowledge and long-standing relationships that allow us to go beyond the obvious highlights and travel at a more considered pace.

As an Australian-owned company with deep ties to Italy, we understand how our guests like to travel. This tour reflects that approach, combining cultural depth, excellent food and wine, and seamless organisation, so you can focus on enjoying the Veneto without having to think about the logistics.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many people are on the tour?
Our tours are limited to a maximum of 12 travellers. This allows for a relaxed pace, easier logistics and a more personal experience throughout the journey.

Is this tour suitable for solo travellers?
Yes. Many of our guests travel on their own. Solo travellers are very welcome, with a single room supplement applying for those who prefer their own room.

How active is the tour?
This tour is designed for travellers with a reasonable level of mobility. Daily activities generally involve walking through towns and cities, often on cobblestones and uneven surfaces, with regular breaks built in. The pace is unhurried, and there are no long or strenuous hikes.

What is the balance between guided touring and free time?
We aim for a balance between guided experiences and time to explore independently. Guided walking tours and visits provide context and insight, while free time allows you to enjoy each destination at your own pace.

Are meals included?
Daily breakfast and selected lunches and dinners are included, as outlined in the itinerary. Drinks are included with all meals provided on the tour, with wine or a non-alcoholic option available.

What type of accommodation can I expect?

Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all travellers and should be arranged before departure.

When is the best time to travel to the Veneto?
June is an excellent time to visit the Veneto, with long daylight hours, warm but generally comfortable temperatures, and vineyards, gardens and countryside at their best.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?
Yes. We are happy to accommodate most dietary requirements when advised at the time of booking.

How do I book or ask further questions?

What our clients say about our tour of the Veneto

I just wanted to write and say a huge thank you to you both for organising a fabulous tour of Veneto. The tour was a wonderful mixture of all the things I enjoy: food, wine, history with some exercise thrown in, great restaurants, and spacious hotel rooms.

The group rocked along well together and there was time to spend alone when we needed a break from each other . I think the pace suited us well and Luca was a great at maintaining a calm but organised atmosphere.

Congratulations on organising such an interesting tour, I’m delighted I found you and I have wonderful memories of my time away in Veneto. I do wish you well for the rest of the holiday season.
